Mindset Recovery: Reconnect With the Real World
At Janus Performance Coaching, we talk a lot about mindset recovery. This isn’t just about sleep or meditation. It’s about disconnecting from technology and seeing the world as it truly is.
Social media has its place. It helps you learn, connect, and stay motivated. But if your entire feed is elite powerlifters and bodybuilders, it creates a false reality. Scroll long enough and you’ll believe that every gym is full of 300-pound monsters, every lifter is breaking records, and that your own progress isn’t enough. This isn’t reality.
The real world is right in front of you. Walk into your local gym and you’ll see lifters of all shapes, sizes, and abilities. Most people are nowhere near those social media extremes. But when you live in that online bubble, it’s easy to forget.
Taking time away from your phone helps reset your perspective. It reminds you how far you’ve come. It lets you see your progress in the right context, not compared to someone who has been training twice as long or lives a completely different life.
Disconnecting from technology lets you reflect on your own goals. Are they realistic for your life, your job, your family, and your body? Or are they shaped by a constant stream of social media noise?
Spend time alone with your thoughts. Reconnect with your why. Put your training in perspective with your life, not someone else’s highlight reel. Then get back to work with a clearer mind.
